1. Is it safe to come study at ETHOS?

We are very serious about the safety of our students. We try to make sure that our students have the best study experience possible. We monitor and advise students on their plans for outside trips and sightseeing in the city! All students who are minors will have a staff member with them or will be with other students in a group wherever they go.

We also have a school nurse, who watches over the health situation of all staff and students. She will also assist any student who might need medical attention. (We ask that all students inform us regarding any medical needs or allergies so that we can keep them safe.)

2. Is there good medical care in Cebu City?

Cebu City has some of the finest health care facilities in the country. We have a company nurse who monitors the health of all staff and students. We have a nearby doctor who looks after minor illnesses and we are only about 10 minutes away from the closest major hospital. If you have international health insurance, you will not have any problems.

3. How long has ETHOS been open?

We have been open since April of 2012. We have been teaching American English now for 12 years!

4. When can I come to study at ETHOS?

You can come anytime you like! The only thing that will affect your ability to come is how full we are at the time you wish to come. At present, our maximum student capacity is 30 individuals. Contact us for more details about availability of housing and class bookings.

5. If I make a reservation and pay the registration fee, then later I must cancel, can I get back my money?

Please study our Payment Rules page. In order to make a reservation with us, you must pay a non-refundable registration fee. This fee will not be refunded, even if you have to cancel because of something like COVID-19.

We will refund any balance payment you might have made, but if there are bank charges and transfer fees to get your money back to you, these will be deducted from the amount.

Instead of asking for a refund, we recommend that you consider rescheduling and come study with us at a later date. Your registration fee will remain valid for up to 12 months so that you will not lose your money.

In addition, we highly recommend that you make your payments through credit card because this is the easiest way to receive a refund. It also has the fewest charges for refunding your money back.

Regarding ENGLISH TRAINING…

1. How many different kinds of English study options are there?

Our English program has two study options. You can study face-to-face classes in our school facilities here in Cebu City, or you can study online.

We can accept students of all English levels. We assess students and then place them in LOW, MEDIUM, or HIGH level groupings. Our teachers work with the students of each level to help them improve.

ETHOS Free Online Assessment QR

We have a FREE ONLINE ASSESSMENT TEST. Anyone is welcome to take it and we will send an evaluation. Either click the link or scan the QR code to go to the site.

2. Do you offer MAN-TO-MAN study option for TEST PREP?

Because our test preparation program is done in groups, we do not have a MAN-TO-MAN class option for this.

Group classes have a maximum of six (6) students with one teacher.

3. What is the FREE 15-minute tutoring?

Even though you will enroll in GROUP classes, we offer free MAN-TO-MAN tutoring after school each weekday. During the morning class sessions, students can sign up for a FREE 15-minute MAN-TO-MAN session with an American teacher after school. During these FREE 15-minute sessions, students can request assistance for anything they want.

4. My English level is very low. Can I still come to ETHOS?

Yes you can. Before you arrive, we will give an assessment and then recommend how long we think that you will need to study to achieve your desired test score. We will place you into a study group that will help you improve your English no matter how low your starting level might be.

If you have a low level, we recommend that you study at least three (3) months.

Regarding Housing…

1. Can ETHOS students stay outside?

We prefer our students to stay in our housing. It is more convenient and safer. It is also cheaper. However, since we use rented facilities, we cannot control many things in the houses we rent, like the number and size of the bathrooms, and how many rooms are in the house. We try to keep our prices low so that we can provide a clean and comfortable place for our students to live while they are with us.

Some students may want to stay somewhere that has a few more comforts, and the cost may or may not be an issue. There are a number of hotels and condominiums in the city that can provide all the comfort and amenities you could wish for.

Of course, we allow our students to stay wherever they want. They need to keep in mind the travel from where they stay to ETHOS for school.

2. If I stay outside, are there any rules I need to be aware of?

We do have certain conduct policies that might be affected by your not staying in ETHOS housing. It is important to remember that you are here, spending a lot of money, to receive training so that you will be able to pass an English test that you need in order to advance your future.

Students who stay outside often do so because they have more freedom. Don't use that freedom as an excuse to affect your studies. For example, if you overindulge in drinking and you are still under the influence when you come to class… DON'T! Don't come to class. We will not allow students who are under the influence to attend class. That would be an insult to the teacher, fellow students, and to our school. Drink if you must, but do it in moderation.

If you come to school like this three (3) times, you will be expelled, and no one wants that to happen. So be smart! Drink moderately! Protect your reputation!

3. What if I am late for class due to traffic?

Please remember that the class day here at ETHOS begins at 9:00 AM. We cannot wait for late arrivals. If you are late, you will miss part of your class. We will not extend the class or arrange any makeup class for later. Therefore, if you stay outside, you need to plan to wake up and leave your housing site each school day with enough time to make it to class by 9:00 AM. "Traffic," although a reality everywhere in the city, will not be accepted as an excuse for being late!

By the way… Do not forget that the office at ETHOS opens at 8:30 AM, so you can arrive early for your class.
