In-Person Classes with American Teachers!

If you want to study English in the Philippines, you CAN have American native teachers instead of Filipinos! At ETHOS English School we have American teachers and several study and housing options for you to consider. We focus upon helping students learn good pronunciation, conversation skills, sentence structure, vocabulary, reading, and writing American English!

Our classes are taught Monday through Friday. Students choose between 4 hours per day and 5 hours per day, and each hour has a different subject. The 4-hour program, includes American Pronunciation, Grammar, Conversation, and Reading. The 5-hour program will cover those 4 subjects plus Writing.

SMALL-GROUP Classes

Students study in small-group classes, with a maximum of six students in one classroom.

Each class meeting is 55 minutes and there is a 5-minute break between each class.

The school day begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 2:00 PM (for the 4-hour program option) or 3:00 PM (for the 5-hour option.) All students have 1 hour for lunch.

We do not have classes on REGULAR HOLIDAYS, for which the Philippine government requires all businesses to close for the day. The school will be closed and those days will be skipped in the school calendar. No classes will be scheduled and there will be no make-up classes for those dates because there are no lessons that will be missed. (You can see the list of ETHOS school holidays for 2023 here.)

Do you need HOUSING?

Students at ETHOS have several housing options. Of course, they can find their own place to stay in the city and simply come to school each day for their classes. However, they can also stay in our fully-furnished DORMITORY apartment, which has a complete kitchen for cooking!

Students may also choose to stay in the homes of our American teachers. We call this option "HOME STAY." HOME STAY and DORMITORY locations are close to the school. Our ETHOS housing options are all for SHARED rooms. We also have certain house rules.

All ETHOS housing units have high-speed WiFi and purified drinking water. ETHOS maintenance personnel will clean twice each week. Bedding and towels are changed once each week.

For students who want more freedom and privacy, we can book rooms in one of the local hostels and pension houses that are within 5-minutes walking distance of ETHOS. If you want to have a private room, the OUTSIDE STAY option is for you!

Our Home Stay option is our most popular. You stay in the home of one of our American teachers, and this will allow you to live in an English-only environment during your time at ETHOS.

Option 1: TUITION ONLY (NO HOUSING)

If you do not need housing, all you pay for is the tuition for the classes. In such cases, you will find your own place to stay. It will be your responsibility to be at the school on time for the start of your classes. There will be no excuse for being late and classes will start on schedule, even without you.

Option 2: DORMITORY

You can also stay in our DORMITORY apartment. This option does not include meals, but the apartment has a complete kitchen where students can cook food. There are two nearby supermarkets where students can buy groceries. The DORMITORY is managed by a member of the ETHOS staff who lives with the students.

Every DORMITORY apartment has FREE high-speed internet!

Option 3: HOME STAY

The HOME STAY option is our most popular. You stay in the home of one of our American teachers, and this will allow you to live in an English-only environment during your time at ETHOS. Most of our American families have children who will be very friendly with you. Some families have pets (mostly dogs or cats), so PLEASE tell us if you have any allergies to animals.

All home stay houses have FREE high-speed internet!

Because HOME STAY spaces at ETHOS are so popular, and limited, they are booked on a “first come, first served” basis. So, make your booking as early as possible!

Option 4: OUTSIDE STAY

Of course, as we mentioned earlier, students can stay in any of the hundreds of boarding houses and hotels located in the city. Please take note of how far away from ETHOS your housing location will be and make travel arrangements to be at school on time. Please do not be late for your classes.

We have special relationships with several hostels and pension houses located just a few minutes away from school. We can assist in making reservations and payments.

More about meals...

With the one exception of breakfast on school days for HOME STAY students, there are NO MEALS included our price quotations. (On school holidays and weekends there is no breakfast for HOME STAY students.)

Therefore, ALL STUDENTS must be prepared to provide their own breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.

As mentioned earlier, DORMITORY students have a complete kitchen in which to cook their food. HOME STAY students may also cook food in the DORMITORY kitchen. However, they should coordinate with the ETHOS Apartment Manager about this. Finding ingredients for cooking is not a problem because we have two large supermarkets just a block away from the school.

On school days, a local caterer brings safe, very delicious, and inexpensive home-cooked Filipino food to the school for the staff and students to purchase for lunch. She usually cooks at least one kind of meat and several kinds of vegetables plus rice. Students choose and purchase individual items from what she cooks. She makes different recipes for each day. It is an inexpensive option for lunch on school days.

We also have several local restaurants near the school. There is a McDonald's and a Jolibee just a block away. There are also several native restaurants nearby where former students have eaten, and we are just 5 minutes away from the SM Seaside shopping mall, which has many different restaurants. And don't forget the option of cooking your own food in the DORMITORY kitchen.

How much does it cost to study at ETHOS?

Before we talk about prices, we will explain what IS and IS NOT included in the price we give you.

Each chart has two sets of prices. The blue side has the prices for our 4-HOURS PER DAY program. The orange side has the prices for our 5-HOURS PER DAY program. Each chart also has rows that provide price quotations for 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 weeks of study. There are prices given for ETHOS DORMITORY and for ETHOS HOME STAY.

The OUTSIDE STAY rooms are with a different company. ETHOS cannot control the price. Students who choose this option must pay the full room price.

You might want to find your own place to stay while studying at ETHOS. You can do this, just be sure to be on time for the start of classes each day. If you choose to find your own housaing, all you pay is the TUITION ONLY rates.

How do I pay for the course?

We accept payment by credit card. Simply tell us what course and housing options you want, and how many weeks you want to study and we will email you a quotation for the package. If you approve the quotation, we will send you a credit card billing invoice through email for our non-refundable deposit. Once we receive this deposit payment we will book your study and reserve your space in housing and your classes.

Then, a few weeks before you are scheduled to arrive at ETHOS, we will send you a second invoice through email for the balance payment. You must pay this amount no later than 15 days before you leave to come to ETHOS.

Want a FREE 2-WEEK Christmas vacation?

If you book a study that starts in October, November or December, and the study extends at least two (2) weeks into January of 2024, we will give you two weeks of FREE housing in our dormitory.

We close ETHOS for the final 2 weeks of each year so our staff can have a Christmas vacation with their families. During that time when there are no classes, you can go to the beach, have a tropical vacation in the middle of winter, and not have to worry about the cost of a hotel!
